Veteran Child Psychologist Describes Surge in Patients Identifying as Transgender

A leading clinical child psychologist with over 15 years of experience says she has seen a sharp increase in young patients now identifying as transgender.

According to a report in the Daily Mail’s Mail on Sunday, the mental health expert states she has seen an increase in the number of young patients claiming to be transgender since the COVID-19 lockdowns.

The report noted:

She is currently seeing a dozen families and has helped almost 40 over the past year but has never before encountered so many young patients identifying as trans.

In many cases, she said, youngsters now coming to see her with mental anguish or suicidal thoughts had been allowed to transition from one gender to another at a young age, sometimes even at five or six.

The Mail on Sunday report cited a blog post titled “A Childhood Is Not Reversible,” apparently written by the psychologist, who explains she is seeking anonymity for fear of “professional repercussions.”

At Transgender Trend, the website which describes itself as having been created by “an organisation of parents, professionals and academics based in the UK who are concerned about the current trend to diagnose children as transgender,” the mental health professional asks, “What are we setting a child up for when puberty hits, if we pretend they are the opposite sex for the best part of their childhood?”

Parents began coming into her office more frequently to present their teen’s “mental anguish, suicidal thoughts and self-harm,” she said, and then, only casually, will mention their child is “trans,” as if that were a non-issue.

“And with that, I knew I’d been warned off,” she wrote.

The psychologist said she knows to stay clear of any mention of the gender identity issue “for fear of being seen as transphobic, and of being accused of practicing conversion therapy.”

“I’m meant to celebrate their trans identity, use the preferred pronouns and definitely not ask any questions at all about what this might mean,” she explained. “I know what is expected of me.”

She warned, however, that caving to the Woke narrative that being “kind” and “affirming,” i.e., celebrating a child’s claim of a different gender, could be a death sentence instead, and that so-called “social transition,” i.e., changing out clothing, names, and pronouns to match the “new” gender, is “a short-term strategy with long-term consequences.”

“In the long term, it creates a problem which is not reversible,” she added. “Puberty is going to arrive, and the child who has been socially transitioned is put in an impossible situation. They’ve been told all their life they are a boy (and that anyone who says they aren’t is transphobic), but their body knows otherwise.”

The psychologist explained that parents often feel a sense of relief when they encourage their “trans” child to engage in social transition.

“They feel they’ve found the solution – and they are scared of what might happen to their child as they grow older, because they’ve been told that the consequences of not transitioning a child are disaster,” she wrote. “Usually suicide.”

“There really is little evidence for this,” however, she asserted.

But that lie – that failing to affirm a child’s claim of a gender at odds with his or her biological sex leads to suicide – is being told by one of Joe Biden’s top Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) officials – Dr. Rachel (born Richard) Levine, who is transgender as well.

“Trans youth in particular are being hounded in public and driven to deaths of despair at an alarming rate,” Levine told National Public Radio (NPR) “in prepared remarks” at the end of April.

Condemning state legislation intended to curb child gender transition, Levine added:

Fifty-two percent of all transgender and nonbinary young people in the U.S. seriously contemplated killing themselves in 2020. Think about how many of them thought it was better to die than to put up with any more harassment, scapegoating and intentional abuse.

Levine continued with more of the transgender narrative, namely that the concept of binary, male and female sex is “much more complicated.”

“There’s chromosomal sex, there are [primary] sex characteristics, secondary sexual characteristics,” Levine went on. “Of course, there are individuals as part of our LGBTQ+ community who are intersex. And so it is multi-dimensional.”

The U.S. assistant secretary for health then explained the LGBTQ dogma regarding “gender”:

Gender is really that self-concept in terms of your gender that is also multidimensional. There are sex roles, which have changed tremendously in our society over the last 50 to 70 years. And then there’s sexual orientation – whom one is attracted to and wants to have intimate relations with – and that is also multidimensional. We want to educate people about those somewhat complex features and help them understand our rainbow family.

“HHS isn’t run by honest medical professionals,” attorney and researcher Jane Robbins asserted recently, however, at the Federalist. “It’s in the grip of ideologues determined to drive troubled children and their families into the clutches of the trans industry.”

Robbins noted a group known as the Society for Evidence Based Gender Medicine (SEGM), which is calling for “safe, compassionate, ethical and evidence-informed healthcare” for young people of all ages with gender dysphoria. The organization has cited HHS’ narrative as “deeply misleading and indeed dangerous,” she observed.

Among SEGM’s criticisms of HHS, which clearly has a bully pulpit to indoctrinate Americans, is its “dishonest use of data on suicide.”

Robbins wrote:

In claiming alarmingly high rates of suicidal ideation in this population — a claim routinely used to pressure desperate parents into consenting to dangerous medical interventions — HHS relies only on “a low quality, non-probability online survey.”

SEGM, however, reported results that are inconsistent with what HHS is alarmingly offering up:

Recent research from one of the world’s largest pediatric gender clinics estimated the rate of suicide in trans-identified youth as 0.03% over a 10-year period, which is comparable to youth presenting for care with mental health problems.

“Even more critically, despite HHS’s strong implication that drugs, hormones, and surgeries reduce suicide rates, SEGM clarifies that ‘no study to date has demonstrated that transition reduces the rate of serious suicide attempts,’” Robbins noted. “Is HHS afraid that telling the truth about suicide will make parents less likely to place their troubled children on the trans-industry conveyor belt?”
