Commentary: Will a Three-Way Race in Arizona Deliver the U.S. Senate to Republicans?

Of all the low-hanging senatorial fruit in 2024 — see red states with blue senators in West Virginia, Montana, and Ohio, to name three — if not the ripest for conservative pickup, then at least the juiciest might be the three-way contest that is liable to heat up in the Arizona desert.

There, Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, Democrat-turned-independent incumbent, if she decides to defend her seat, will face an extreme progressive challenger on the left and, possibly, one of the Trumpiest of Trumpists on the right, Kari Lake, who may find herself in a primary battle with a slightly lesser Trumpist in Blake Masters, who lost the other Senate seat in 2022 to Mark Kelly.

Arizona County Pressured to Return $80 Million in Ill-Gotten Revenue to Taxpayers

After years of inaction, taxpayers are asking a judge to force a southern Arizona county to return millions of dollars in transportation tax revenue ruled unconstitutional by the state’s Supreme Court.

Harold Vangilder – a former candidate for state Senate – along with Dan Neidig and the Arizona Restaurant Association have asked the state’s Superior Tax Court for an injunction forcing Pinal County and the Arizona Department of Revenue to rebate taxpayers the $80 million in infrastructure excise taxes collected on transactions below $10,000.

A bipartisan House Bill (HB) is headed to Governor Katie Hobbs’ desk, which aims to crack down on a disturbing trend of sex dolls that resemble children.

Under HB 2169, one of these objects is defined as a “doll, mannequin or robot” that has “the features of or features that resemble those of an infant or a child who is under 12 years old” and is “intended to be used for sexual stimulation or gratification.”

Lamb has not officially announced, but a filing with the Federal Election Commission marks the formation of his campaign committee.

The Biden administration is endangering American lives by turning “a willful blind eye” to the crisis at the southern border, Arizona Sheriff Mark Lamb said Monday.

“Their track record would show that they’re not going to address it,” Lamb, the sheriff of Arizona’s Pinal County, told the “Just the News, Not Noise” TV show. “They’re going to continue to turn a willful blind eye to it — just jeopardizing American lives every day.”

Arizona to Lose 21 Percent of Its Colorado River Supply as Feds Announce Water Cut

The Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) and Central Arizona Project (CAP) released a joint statement addressing the recent news from the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) that Arizona will have a fifth of its water supply from the Colorado River System cut in 2023.

“It is unacceptable for Arizona to continue to carry a disproportionate burden of reductions for the benefit of others who have not contributed,” said ADWR Director Tom Buschatzke and CAP General Manager Ted Cooke. “Arizona is committed to work toward a comprehensive plan that assures protection of the system through equitable contributions from all water users.”

In seven municipalities across Pinal County, voters received an early ballot with errors related to city and town elections, and officials recently held a live meeting to discuss what voters should expect from new municipal-only ballots.

“Effective now, impacted voters can go to their local voting site and they can pick up the municipal only ballot, or if you are on the active early voter list, this will automatically be sent to your residence,” said Pinal County Attorney General Kent Volkmer in the meeting recorded by Fox News. “I cannot stress this enough. If you live in any of the seven impacted municipalities, you must fill out both of these ballots.”

Arizona’s Sheriff Mark Lamb of Pinal County has been outspoken about taking action on the local level when the Biden administration will not, recently starting Protect America Now (PAN) to bring sheriffs together with patriotic Americans on important issues like border security. This past month, he formed a coalition with the election integrity organization True the Vote to ensure secure elections, ProtectAmerica.Vote.

“Sheriffs’ primary duty is to protect the rights of their constituents, which includes their rights as voters,” he said on the website. “ProtectAmerica.vote aims to solve this problem and bridge the gap between voters and local law enforcement. Our work will ensure we have secure elections in this country.”

Meet the Two New Arizona Republican Legislators, Teresa Martinez and Neal Carter

The Pinal County Board of Supervisors has appointed Neal Carter as Representative for District 8 to serve the remaining term left by Frank Pratt's passing, and Teresa Martinez as Representative for District 11 to serve the remaining term left by Bret Roberts' resignation.

With the passing away of Rep. Frank Pratt (R-Casa Grande) and the resignation of Rep. Bret Roberts (R-Maricopa), the Pinal County Supervisors have chosen two new legislators to replace them. The five-member board chose them at a meeting on October 27.

Teresa Martinez will replace Roberts representing LD 11, which is located between Phoenix and Tucson. She described herself to The Arizona Sun Times as “A pro-life, pro-gun, back the blue, protect our border, love America, protect our elections through election integrity conservative.” She said, “I am not going to trample on your freedom, but I don’t want you to trample on mine or anyone else’s.”
