Los Angeles Implements ‘Zero Bail’ System

by Eric Lendrum

The heavily-populated Los Angeles County implemented its own “zero bail” system this week, allowing for most criminals to be released from jail almost immediately after being arrested.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, the new policy replaces the previous one requiring defendants to post bail before they could be released, with the bail often set at a certain level depending on the severity of the crime committed. The Left has long advocated against the concept of bail, on the basis that it allegedly results in poorer criminals staying incarcerated.

But the enacting of the new policy has led to widespread safety concerns from citizens and law enforcement alike. Sheriff Robert Luna said that “our communities have not been shy about telling us how nervous they are about this change.”

Luna added that the new policy will demoralize law enforcement officers just as much as civilians, pointing out that now, officers will be forced to “watch the offender walk away with a citation, as the victim looks on in disbelief.”

The new policy has even been criticized by celebrities such as rapper Curtis Jackson, more popularly known as “50 Cent.” Jackson predicted earlier this year that the city of Los Angeles would be “finished” if it implemented the zero-bail policy.

The policy has been implemented elsewhere, including New York, and is one of the more consequential impacts of the race riots of 2020, during which the far-left domestic terrorist organizations Black Lives Matter and Antifa demanded an end to bail systems, accusing such measures as being “systemically racist.”
