Border Wall Construction

A new poll suggests that more Americans than ever before support the idea of building a wall along the southern border, as the mass migration crisis rages out of control and has cost more American lives.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, the latest poll from Monmouth University shows that 53% of respondents support building the wall, while 46% oppose it, marking the first time ever that a Monmouth poll has shown majority support for the proposal. While more Republicans and independents support the wall than in past years, Democratic support for the idea has fallen.

In the same poll, 84% described the immigration issue as “somewhat serious” or “very serious.” Another 61% said that illegal aliens should remain in Mexico while their asylum claims are being processed, with 35% saying they should be allowed into the United States.

When asked about the recent controversial bill in the U.S. Senate, which would have greatly expanded both illegal and legal immigration with minimal border enforcement, 47% of respondents said the bill was not tough enough; when asked about support or opposition to the bill, 33% said they were opposed, and 23% said they supported it, while 45% said they had no opinion on it either way.

The poll’s findings confirm the significant weight that the immigration issue carries as the 2024 election draws nearer. In every early primary contest thus far, exit polling has overwhelmingly shown that immigration is the dominant issue among Republican primary voters, thus boosting the already strong campaign of former President Donald Trump, who has vowed a massive nationwide deportation effort if he is re-elected.

The immigration crisis has also drawn even more scrutiny following the murder of 22-year-old American student Laken Riley, who was found dead on the University of Georgia campus in Athens. Authorities soon arrested the suspect, an illegal alien who had entered the country in 2022 and had been released by authorities in New York City due to the city’s “sanctuary” status for illegals.

The poll, conducted between February 8th and February 12th, featured a sample size of 902 American adults, with a margin of error of 4.1%.
