Arizona State Senator Justine Wadsack (R-Tucson) is encouraging families that the “Arizona Families Tax Rebate,” a part of the $17.8 billion state budget approved by Governor Katie Hobbs on May 15th, is expected to be sent out sometime this fall.
The Arizona Families Tax Rebate, championed by Arizona Senate Republicans and the Arizona Freedom Caucus, will allow Arizona families to receive up to $750 in rebates based on 2021 tax returns.
Due to this rebate, taxpayers with children under 17 will receive $250 for each child, and taxpayers with children beyond 17 would receive $100 for each child. There is a three-dependent limit on these rebates. Households must have owed at least $1 in taxes in the tax years 2021, 2020, or 2019 to qualify for this reimbursement.
According to a Monday article written by Wadsack and published in the Arizona Daily Independent News Network, since Joe Biden took office in January 2021, increasing inflation, surging prices, and sharply declining real wages have had a crippling impact across America, including Arizonans. She notes that as a senator, this concerns her.
“I am deeply concerned about all the people who feel the weight of these imposed realities a little more with each passing day. It weighs heavily on my mind and my heart, and as a senator for LD (Legislative District) 17, it is a high priority for me every day to support any good measure that will give my constituents and all Arizonans even a bit of relief, and hopefully a bit of hope along with it,” Wadsack said.
Wadsack says she is proud to have played a role in helping Arizona families through the Arizona Families Tax Rebate and hopes that it encourages Arizonans that the rebates will soon go out to help families in these hard economic times.
“I am proud to have played a key role in helping Arizona families with the creation of the $260M Arizona Families Tax Rebate. This will provide meaningful relief for families struggling in this uncertain economy. The rebates are expected to be sent out sometime this fall. I am so excited to share this good news with you, my wonderful constituents, and all Arizonans! I hope you will be encouraged,” Wadsack said.
The Arizona Department of Revenue will electronically reimburse taxpayers between October and November 2023, in accordance with the state budget.
Anyone who believes they are eligible but does not get the reimbursement by November of the following year may submit a claim to the government. The taxpayer’s surviving spouse will be the first to get the refund if they pass away before the Department of Revenue issues it.
The Arizona Department of Revenue must provide a report by February 2025 to the legislative leaders outlining the number of rebates, the monetary amounts distributed, and any costs spent in providing the monies.
The Arizona Sun Times contacted Wadsack for comment but did not hear back before press time.
