Walter Blackman and Shawnna Bolick Among Arizona Officials Who Applaud the Landmark SCOTUS Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade

Arizona State Representatives Walt Blackman (R-Sedona) and Shawnna Bolick (R-San Miguel) are among Arizona officials who released a statement applauding the landmark decision from the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) in Dobbs v. Jackson, which overturns Roe v. Wade.

“As state legislators, we support protecting all lives, especially our most vulnerable. We will continue to advocate for families and promote life. Now that Roe has been overturned, decisions about abortion policy become a states’ rights issue,” the representatives said in a joint statement.

Bolick co-signed an amicus brief in 2021 supporting Dobbs v. Jackson, protecting vulnerable and innocent life.

Moreover, Arizona Representative Debbie Lesko (R-AZ-08) released a statement calling it the right decision.

“The U.S. Supreme Court made the right decision on Dobbs. The abortion debate will finally be returned to the people through their elected representatives. The Court made it clear that there is no Constitutional right to an abortion and agreed with Constitutional scholars on both sides of the debate that Roe v. Wade was originally decided on shaky legal grounds,” said Lesko.

She further said it is time for people to unite to support vulnerable women and unborn babies.

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ-05) says that nothing in the Constitution provides the right to have an abortion, calling the original Roe v. Wade ruling “horrific.”

“I am incredibly grateful for the decision by the majority of justices who, in rendering this decision, have withstood assassination attempts and other threats since the illegal leak of a draft opinion several weeks ago. Today’s decision is a return to civilization, equality and the respect for all human life,” said Gosar.

He released another statement explaining what will happen moving forward, saying that abortion is now rightfully returned to being a state issue.

“States like Arizona, I hope, will leave its abortion laws on the books. It is illegal for anyone, physicians included, to assist someone in getting an abortion in Arizona. The penalty is 2-5 years in jail. That law is still on the books in Arizona. I hope it remains and that abortions are not provided in our great state,” said Gosar.

Gosar finishes by discussing a bright future where the world is a better place for children and not a “satanic death cult society that practices baby killing and infanticide.”

Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ-05) tweeted out his remarks regarding the opinion, stating that life is precious and everyone has a right to it.

“This historic decision will save the lives of millions of unborn children. I have always been committed to fighting for the sanctity of life,” said Biggs.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) also weighed in on the situation, saying he is proud of Arizona’s commitment to pro-life and that Arizona will continue to protect life in any way possible.

“The Supreme Court has made the right decision by finally overturning it and giving governing power back to the people and the states,” Ducey Tweeted.

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich (R) applauded the SCOTUS decision for correcting nearly 50 years of wrongdoing.

“Attorneys General have a solemn responsibility to defend the most vulnerable among us, and that’s exactly what we did today,” Brnovich said in a press release. “I look forward to seeing the issue returned to elected representatives where it belongs. As Americans, we believe in the dignity and value of every person.”
