Republican Member of Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Resigns After Leaked Recordings Show Support for Election Audit

Arizona Republican and member of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Steve Chucri announced on Tuesday that he will resign, following leaked records.

In the recordings released by The Gateway Pundit, Chucri criticized his colleagues for their lack of support for the forensic audit of the county’s 2.1 million ballots.

Furthermore, Chucri hinted that some of the Supervisors rejected the audit measure because they won their elections by small margins.

“You know what I think it was, in hindsight? Gates got scared because he barely won, and Jack got scared because he only won by 200 votes. And if there was an audit and a recount — which is pretty bullsh-t, by the way — what would happen in those two races? And that is way too self-serving,” Chucri said.

As the recording continues, Chucri claims that Supervisor Clint Hickman “just didn’t have the guts” for an election audit.

While explaining his support for the audit, the Supervisor suggested that there was fraud committed in the county.

“I think it was done through dead people voting,” he said. “I think it was multifaceted. I think there is a lot of cleanup here.

When announcing his resignation, Chucri detailed that he regretted the comments made about other members of the Board of Supervisors.

“The comments I made were during a very turbulent time,” he wrote. “My colleagues have every right to be both angry and disappointed with me. I should not have made such statements and offer my colleagues heartfelt apologies.”

Additionally, he pointed to “toxicity” as the basis for his resignation.

“The environment is wrought with toxicity — and all civility and decorum no longer seem to have a place,” Chucri said. “The fixation with the 2020 election results and aftermath have gotten out of control.”

Chucri’s resignation will be effective November 5th.
