National Republican Congressional Committee Spotlights Arizona Congressional Race, Names Ciscomani to ‘Young Guns’ Program

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is placing a heavy focus on Arizona’s 6th Congressional District and candidate Juan Ciscomani.

The organization named him to its “Young Guns” program, which recognizes promising candidates in “the most competitive congressional seats in the 2022 election cycle.”

“I am honored to be named a Young Gun by the NRCC, and grateful for the confidence and support by Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and NRCC Chair Representative Tom Emmer,” Ciscomani said. “Our campaign has been working hard, connecting with voters, listening to their concerns and building support to take back this seat and the U.S. House this fall. Today, Washington Democrats are destroying the American Dream. With record-high gas prices, inflation at a 40-year high, surging crime rates and high apprehension rate numbers at our southern border, it’s time to fire Nancy Pelosi as Speaker and retake the House. Laura and I are grateful for the support from all who have joined Team Ciscomani.”

In addition to the designation, Ciscomani picked up endorsements from House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA-23), GOP Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA-01), and multiple local leaders across the district.

On the Democratic side, former State Senator Kirsten Engel and Arizona State Representative Daniel Hernandez Jr. (D-Patagonia) are among notable candidates vying for the party’s nomination.

The general election is likely to be a close contest between the two parties’ nominees. Previously, the district, which now includes parts of Tucson and western Arizona, leaned toward Democrats; however, after the redistricting process, Republicans have a favorable chance at winning the seat.

Furthermore, Democrats face an uphill battle as President Joe Biden slides in the polls. One survey found the president stuck at 36 percent job approval in the state.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report labels the race as “lean Republican.”
