Gosar Hits Hobbs for Refusal to Debate Lake

A U.S. congressman from Arizona is wading into the fray on what is becoming a contentious gubernatorial race in the state.

“2 days later and [Katie Hobbs] still refuses to debate [Kari Lake],” Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ-04) said in a tweet. “Maybe we should start a clock on this.”

Lake has demanded that her opponent, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, step into the ring with her for a debate.

“It looks like my radical opponent Katie Hobbs is going to take a page out of Joe Biden’s playbook and campaign from her basement,” Lake said in a Saturday video. “Do you want to find out if she’s serious about being governor? If she is, she will take me up on this offer.”

“Katie, I’m speaking directly to you,” Lake said. “You claim to care about the people of Arizona. Prove it. Debate me. You name the time and you name the place. And to make things even easier for you, I will allow you to choose the moderator. Hell, I’ll even let you write the questions.”

Lake says Hobbs’s consultants can write the questions and ask her anything.

“Seriously, this is your opportunity to prove to the people of Arizona that you actually have a tiny sliver of respect for them,” Lake said. “I’m making it unbelievably easy for you. Think really hard before you turn down this chance. I don’t think you’ll do it. I think you’re a coward. Prove me wrong.”

At the time of publication Tuesday afternoon, Hobbs has still not agreed to debate Lake.

Gosar has been vocally supportive of Lake on other issues, too.

When Lake recently noted that Hobbs supports policies that allow children to be put on puberty blockers and undergo medical procedures to change their sex, Gosar spoke out on her behalf.

“Child genital mutilation has been deemed a human rights violation by the UN for some time now,” he tweeted. “Whether done in Southern Sudan for religious reasons or LA for psychological reasons it’s still genital mutilation and still immoral. And should be a crime.”
