Border Patrol Catches Group of 51 Crossing Illegally in Arizona

Over the weekend, a large group of minor illegal aliens was caught crossing the U.S. southern border with Mexico near the town of Sasabe.

“A group of 51 migrants, mostly Guatemalan citizens, were taken into custody by Tucson Station agents near Sasabe, AZ. There was only one adult in the group, and the youngest child was just 11-months-old,” tweeted John Modlin, chief patrol agent of the U.S. Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector. “Several agents responded to assist with transport and processing.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Tucson Sector covers 262 miles of borderland and describes itself as “one of the busiest sectors in the country in both illegal alien apprehensions and marijuana seizures.”

CBP in Arizona – and in the entire Southwest – has been particularly busy during the Biden administration.

Recently, CBP in Yuma captured 33 migrants being smuggled in a single van.

In order to alleviate some of the burden and slow the flow of illegal aliens into the United States, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), CBP’s parent agency, says it will plug some of the holes in a border wall near Yuma.

“The gaps are located within the former Yuma 6 project area, a border barrier project that was previously funded by the Department of Defense’s (DoD) military construction appropriation pursuant to 10 U.S.C. § 2808,” a DHS representative said, as reported by The Arizona Sun Times.

Still, DHS said it would fill the gaps for the safety of migrants, not for homeland security.

“Due to the proximity to the Morelos Dam and the swift-moving Colorado River, this area presents safety and life hazard risks for migrants attempting to cross into the United States where there is a risk of drownings and injuries from falls,” according to the agency. “This area also poses a life and safety risk to first responders and agents responding to incidents in this area.”

Meanwhile, the number of illegal alien crossings continues to skyrocket, as it has during the entire Biden presidency.

In June, CBP said it encountered 217,416 migrants crossing the border.
