Arizona Gubernatorial Candidate Kari Lake Registers Voters at Gas Station

Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, who is seeking the Republican Party’s nomination, joined her campaign team on Saturday to register voters at gas stations around Tempe.

Lake’s campaign has blamed the spike in prices on President Joe Biden and other Democratic policies, seeking to court new GOP votes due to the direct impact of the price increase.

“Team Kari is out registering voters at Gas Stations in Tempe, AZ! Pain at the pump? Vote RED!” a tweet from Lake said.

The “Gasoline Misery Index” from the Metro Business Daily Network details that residents of the state will pay an average of $769 more for gas this year compared to last. While prices have declined in recent weeks, fuel still averages $4.56 per gallon in the state, compared to $3.06 last year.

As reported by the Arizona Sun Times, the race for the GOP nomination is close. According to a recent poll, Lake “holds the lead in the race for governor with 29 percent support. However, Arizona Strategies president Karrin Taylor-Robson is within striking distance; she has 22 percent support. Meanwhile, former U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon is in a distant third place with 11 percent support. Steve Gaynor, the Republican nominee for Arizona Secretary of State in 2018, is in fourth place with 3 percent support.

The effort to recruit new voters may help Lake curb the surge from Taylor-Robson.

“With one-third of likely voters undecided in the Governor’s contest, the winner will likely be the one who does the best with voter math,” OHPI Chief of Research Mike Noble explained in a press release.

“Salmon needs to figure out how to gain some momentum, Lake needs to figure out a way to increase her base of support, Robson needs to not run out of money, and Gaynor needs to do something – anything to stave off irrelevancy.”
