Lesko Congratulates Hageman After Cheney Defeat

A U.S. congresswoman applauded the next member of Congress from Wyoming, who won her primary Tuesday night, all but guaranteeing that she will win her November general election in the deep-red state.

“The people of Wyoming have clearly spoken. I want to congratulate Harriet Hageman on her victory in Wyoming, and I look forward to working with her in the U.S. House next Congress to fight for the American people and hold President Biden accountable for his terrible policies,” said Representative Debbie Lesko (R-AZ-08).

Hageman defeated anti-Trumper Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY-At Large) in a landslide.

Cheney has spent more than a year on the January 6 committee attacking Trump and his supporters for the riot at the Capitol a year and a half ago. The race was viewed by many as a bellwether of Trump’s support within the GOP.

Several conservative personalities celebrated Hageman’s victory over Cheney.

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul was among them.

“Few people in Washington have been as wrong and damaging on foreign policy as Liz Cheney. Congratulations to [Hageman] on her victory tonight,” Paul said on Twitter. “I look forward to working with an advocate for liberty as the next Congresswoman from Wyoming. Bye Liz.”

“It appears that Liz Cheney, one of the GOP’s chief warmongers, is about to lose. This is good news for every American regardless of party,” former Democrat Congresswoman from Hawaii Tulsi Gabbard said via Twitter.

“Liz Cheney fundamentally misunderstands why people are so passionately angry at her inside the GOP base. Which is why she actually lost,” said commentator Ben Shapiro, later adding that “[w]inning simply would have required her not to act as a front person for a Democratic committee dedicated to lumping together all Republicans and conservatives with January 6 rioters, and suggesting that anyone who would consider voting Trump 2024 is an incipient fascist.”

Commentator and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza also shared his thoughts on Hageman’s win and Cheney’s loss.

“Liz Cheney didn’t lose because she took on Trump. She lost because she took on her own constituents. She refused to represent them. She came to believe she was better than them. She alone possessed and upheld the truth. Today the voters put an end to this delusional bullsh*t,” he said in a tweet.

Several members of Arizona’s congressional delegations did not return Wednesday comment requests.
