January 6th Committee Subpoenas Rep. Andy Biggs

The January 6th Committee issued subpoenas to five different members of Congress, including Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ-05).

In addition to Biggs, Representatives Kevin McCarthy (R-CA-23), Scott Perry (R-PA-10), Jim Jordan (R-OH-04), and Mo Brooks (R-AL-05) were requested to appear before the group.

“Today’s actions by the illegitimate January 6 Committee are pure political theater,” said Congressman Biggs. “The subpoenas and news of their issuance were leaked to the media before the impacted Members.”

“The January 6 Committee’s ongoing, baseless witch-hunt is nothing more than an effort to distract the American people from the Democrats’ and Biden’s disastrous leadership. The border is in crisis, inflation is skyrocketing, crime is rampant, and Democrats are focused on fabricating their own facts to take down Republican leaders.”

The lawmakers will likely be asked about their conversations with former President Trump on and around that day.

Republicans have slammed these actions as “illegitimate,” largely because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected nominations of potential members for the committee by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

Previously, Biggs rebuffed an attempt to appear voluntarily before the group, leading to the mandatory subpoena.

“I will not be participating in the illegitimate and Democrat-sympathizing House Jan. 6 committee panel,” said Congressman Biggs. “The committee has been a sham since its origins. Its entire purpose is to destroy President Trump and his supporters, intimidate members of Congress, and distract Americans from real issues that are destroying this country. The committee operates with the same kind of bias present at the Salem Witch Trials. Everyone is guilty and must demonstrate their innocence. They are basing their witch-hunt on dubious media accounts.”

He also called on Republican leaders to kick Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger from the conference because of their participation.

“Republican leadership should remove Representatives Cheney and Kinzinger from representing the party in this committee. These two are trying to divide and burn the Republican Party. The American people and the party deserve better.”
