Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich Signs Letter to Demand Resignation from DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich signed a letter, led by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, to urge Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign.

The letter, signed by 13 other states and sent directly to Mayorkas, accused him of abandoning his oath of office and putting Americans at risk.

“It is the core function of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to ‘secure the nation from the many threats we face.’ Yet, since taking office, you have purposely taken repeated actions impairing the safety and security of Americans. As you publicly boast about your abject refusal to enforce the laws enacted by Congress to keep us safe, our southwest border is a disaster and our nation is on the verge of a national security crisis,” the letter said

The group used the ongoing border crisis as evidence of his lack of leadership, adding that deportations have “fallen a staggering 70 percent since 2020.” At the same time, border officials encountered a record number of migrants crossing the border illegally last year.

“You were sworn in as Secretary of DHS on February 2, 2021. On that day, you solemnly swore to ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic.’ You have violated that oath every day since you took office. Americans have died because of your failure to obey the law and do your solemn duty. More Americans will unnecessarily die and suffer for as long as you remain as Secretary.”

“You must resign immediately.”

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey also urged the agency leader to step down after reports of leaked comments made by the top security official. He called for Mayorkas to be replaced with “someone who will tell the American people the truth publicly, stand up to the radical activists inside the Biden-Harris administration and once and for all end the crisis at the southern border.”
