Arizona Attorney General’s Office Requests Information About Voter Registration List Maintenance from Secretary of State

Arizona Assistant Attorney General Jennifer Wright on Thursday requested additional information from the secretary of state’s office regarding the maintenance of voter registration lists.

Citing that “many of the issues identified” in the recent forensic audit pointed to voter registration lists, the attorney general’s Election Integrity Unity (EIU) asked for material to investigate.

Specifically, Wright requested “any and all data files, reports, lists, communications, records, information, spreadsheets, emails, documents, or logs sent between the SOS or its assigns and Arizona counties, including county recorders, county election officials, or county board of supervisors” in addition to communications with various state and federal organizations.

Wright also instructed the secretary of state’s office to interpret the request “liberally” in order to include all material requested by Brnovich’s office.

However, Secretary of State Katie Hobbs has remained critical of the forensic audit and efforts to investigate claims of potential irregularities.

“The presentations we have heard today lack both expertise and overall understanding of election administration. Their conclusions are not only inaccurate, but dangerous,” Hobbs said when discussing the finding of the audit.

Previously, after the results of the forensic audit were released, Attorney General Mark Brnovich pledged to investigate concerns relating to the integrity of the state’s election.

“The Arizona Senate’s report that was released on Friday raises some serious questions regarding the 2020 election,” said Brnovich. “Arizonans can be assured our office will conduct a thorough review of the information we receive.”

The EIU sent a letter to Maricopa County officials, instructing the recorder and supervisors to preserve all records related to the 2020 election.

Additionally, the attorney general’s office sent a letter to the Arizona Senate requesting more information related to the audit, which reviewed approximately 2.1 million ballots from Maricopa County.
