Biden’s Afghanistan Failure Leaves America Vulnerable, Says Rep. Mark Green

Representative Mark Green (R-TN-07), a former combat veteran now serving in Congress, penned an opinion piece in The Daily Signal, hammering the Biden administration for the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal.

Green, who is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, detailed that Biden’s decision “leaves America just as vulnerable as we were on 9/11.”

“After fighting in Afghanistan to overthrow a government that harbored Osama bin Laden and refused to cut ties with al-Qaeda, watching Afghanistan fall back into the hands of the Taliban is heartbreaking for me and for every other service member and veteran who dedicated his or her service to fighting in the war on terrorism,” Green wrote in the piece.

As the Taliban has regained control of the country, defense officials detailed that thousands of ISIS Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) prisoners have been freed. ISIS-K is the group largely blamed for the suicide bombing that killed 13 U.S. military members.

Additionally, the White House has described that a “fair amount” of U.S. weaponry now belongs to the Taliban.

“Yet now, after President Joe Biden’s horribly botched, catastrophic Afghanistan debacle, we are back to where we were in 2001. Not only is the Taliban back in control, but it now has more than $80 billion of U.S. military equipment left behind by Afghan National Security Forces—equipment it will use to oppress its own people—and, once again, it will harbor al-Qaeda,” Green continued.

Furthermore, Green highlighted that Biden ignored warnings of a likely Taliban takeover.

Now, China has seemingly taken advantage of the U.S. withdrawal, quickly forming a partnership with the Taliban and the group calling China a “trusted friend.”

The Tennessee congressman has remained a constant critic of the Biden administration’s Afghanistan decisions, previously calling the move “shameful.”
